Community Involvement

We believe in giving back to the communities we serve and call home, and we partner with many local nonprofits.
To date, we have donated over $1M in cash donations and free medical services to 12 Central Texas animal welfare nonprofits.

Our nonprofit partners promote animal compassion and prevent future homelessness. The free medical care we offer helps those nonprofits prepare their dogs and cats for adoption and a good life with forever families.

As we open more locations, we’ll grow our local relationships!

Before COVID, our team volunteered at 40+ events per year. We ventured out to meet the people and pets of Central Texas at hyperlocal neighborhood events like school science days and July 4th parades. We also supported larger civic events including the Buda Lions Club Wiener Dog Races, Austin PRIDE, and APA!’s “Paddle for Puppies”.

In 2020, we’ve continued to give back in more socially distanced ways: our doctors visit shelters to volunteer one-on-one, we have fostered animals at our homes, and we’ve mentored students at our hospitals.

Firehouse supported the Austin American-Statesman’s Season For Caring campaign for the 4th year in 2020. We donated $10,000 in free medical care for pets whose owners were part of the fundraiser. Here’s how we helped:
6-month Skylo had emergency surgery to look for a toy he had ingested
Austin Humane Society Pet Food Pantry Event: Firehouse worked with AHS and HEB to distribute hundreds of pounds of cat and of food to Austin pet parents. The pet food was graciously donated by HEB.
Texas Humane Heroes 2020 Chili Cookoff: Teams from 3 of our 5 locations spent a recent Saturday helping support Texas Humane Heroes at their annual chili cookoff.
Dr Opyt at Kyle shares more about our nonprofit partnerships with CBS “We Are Austin” host in this video.
The Austin PRIDE Festival celebrates Austin’s diversity. Firehouse hosts an “ask the vet” booth and serves as a hydration station for thirsty pups.
The annual Lions Club Buda Wiener Dog Races raise money for student scholarships each April. The Firehouse team serves as race judges, contestant authority, and event veterinarian.
The annual “Paddle for Puppies” event on Lady Bird Lake benefits the Parvo Program at Austin Pets Alive! Firehouse serves as event lifeguards and hosts an “ask the vet” booth.
Our team volunteered at overcrowded pet shelters after Hurrican Harvey in August 2017.
The Firehouse team joins Love-A-Bull each spring to offer a free vaccine clinic to Austin residents.
April 2019 Buda Weiner Dog Races – Firehouse is an annual participant and we were excited to be a part of this amazing event again in 2019. Our team had such a great time helping with the races – go weiners, go!
May 2019 Cinco De Puppo – We hosted a booth at Camp Bow Wow’s Cinco de Puppo. This family-friendly event also supported Williamson County and showcased adorable pups available for adoption.
May 2019 Pup Crawl w/ AHS – Firehouse received a special invitation to attend and be a vendor at Austin Humane Society’s 8th Annual Pup Crawl last May! One of the regular AHS donors gave money for the Firehouse team to participate– we were ecstatic!
August 2019 APA Paddle for Pups w/ APA – Despite algae blooms in Austin lakes making it unsafe for pups, the community still rallied together to support Austin Subaru’s Paddle for Puppies. This event benefits the Parvo Puppy Program at Austin Pets Alive! Our team had a great time helping APA with this event and we look forward to next year.
September 2019 Emancipet Gala – We were so thrilled to be a part of Emancipet’s 20th Anniversary Gala. Emancipet is an amazing and revolutionary company that puts pets & their families first and we are proud to call them Firehouse friends!
Firehouse participated in the CASA Superhero Run in Round Rock in September 2019 by hosting a booth and running in the race.
